Why You Should Visit Milford Sound in Autumn
As we move into the tail end of the summer season, Milford Sound seems even quieter and more remote than usual. As a result, this is the perfect time to get out and explore our country. All those places that were on the ‘some day, when we have time’ bucket list are more attractive than ever now that the crowds are gone.
Everyone should visit Milford Sound at least once in their lifetime. due to its spectacular beauty, with the breathtaking contrast between soaring mountains and inky waters, the sheer rocky cliffs and lush native rainforest.
Visiting Milford Sound in autumn means you can enjoy comfortable temperatures – no need to bundle yourself in layers to experience your cruise on the fiord! Soon, the bare, tussock-covered mountains of the Southern Alps will be dusted with the first snow of the season as the temperatures start dropping. When it rains, you’ll still find memorable scenery thanks to the waterfalls surrounding Milford Sound. And right now, you can see Milford Sound without the crowds!
Milford Sound is also the end point of the famous Milford Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. If you’re not up for doing the whole track, you can look at some of the other shorter walks and hikes in the region.
